TAOM2024 will be hosted by İstanbul University’s Faculty of Political Sciences, whose compus is located in the historical peninsula of Istanbul, right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city and set within a large garden. The campus is also of great importance with its architectural structures of historical and aesthetic value. The main building, built on three floors, was built in an eclectic style where multiple styles were used together. Marble columns, stone work and especially the decorations on the walls and ceilings of the Blue Hall are among the striking features of the building. Today, the building, most of which is used as the administrative and management center of Istanbul University, is also the most important culture and art center of the university with scientific meetings, exhibitions, and concerts.

The most famous part of the main campus is the main gate, which was featured on the 500 Turkish Lira paper bill between 1971-84.  Where today’s gate stands, there was once a different gate, quite distinct from the current one. This first gate, built in 1827, was similar to the enormous gate of the Sublime Porte located on the Soğukçeşme-Alay Mansion side, which is still used today. While Bâb-ı Âli Gate represents the power of the state in the Ottoman Empire, Serasker Gate represents military power.  The construction of today’s gate began in 1864. During the expansion works initiated in Beyazıt Square in 1869, the new Seraskerlik Gate and the mansions on both sides of the gate were used as the main dominant element of the square.  This monumental gate is not only the symbol of Istanbul University but also represents the “university concept” in Turkey. Entering the university actually means entering dreams through this gate

Another historical architectural structure within the main campus is the Istanbul University Beyazıt Fire Tower. In fact, before the current tower, two other towers were built in different periods. The first of the towers, which were built to quickly detect and intervene in fires in Istanbul, was built in 1749, and the second in 1826. The third tower we see today was built by the order of Sultan Mahmud II. It consists of a total of 4 floors, from top to bottom: starboard floor, basket floor, signal floor and guard floor. There is an inscription with the signature of Sultan Mahmud II in the section of the tower overlooking Beyazıt Square.  Beyazıt Fire Tower, one of the most important elements of the Istanbul skyline, can be seen from many parts of Istanbul. For this reason, the Fire Tower was also used as a weather forecast for a while. For Istanbulites, yellow light indicates fog, red light indicates snow, green light indicates rain, and blue light indicates clear weather.Venue Address:
